New Virginia Sports activities Betting Invoice provides articles to be added final 12 months
One of the writers from last year Virginia The Sportsbook Bill would like to add a few points that he believed were included in the bill that first legalized sports betting.
Del. Mark Sickles wrote HB 1847 resolve some inconsistencies in last year’s legislation that legalized VA sports betting.
That includes adding five more pure online licenses and opening Olympic Events for betting. The substitute reported from the house on Tuesday ABC gaming Subcommittee advances in full General Laws Committee.
“The bill I have today is 100% technical, what’s in here … are things we thought we passed last year,” Sickles told the subcommittee.
All in all 25th Sports betting providers applied for the dozen or so licenses available in the state. The Virginia Lottery is still urging that the first operator be live on time Super bowl Bets.
Proposed changes to sports betting in Virginia
Sickles’ legislation offers some simple changes that could result in five additional online-only operators in the state. The bill rewrites the law, stating that licenses given to large sports franchises or casino operators will not count towards the maximum of 12 online-only operators.
It was previously clear that the lottery would essentially choose between four and seven Online-only licenses, with these five counting against the cap.
“Those potentially five casinos shouldn’t count towards the 12 license cap, but the lottery didn’t read it that way,” Sickles said. “… we did not intend that.”
Sickles’ bill also makes it clear that casinos can have sale Sports betting and not just via a mobile app.
Olympic betting should be allowed
In addition to adding more operators to the industry, Sickles also wants to make it clear that bets on the Olympic Games are permitted. The new bill explains how youth sport differs from Olympic competitions.
The lottery rejected several requests from operators to include Olympic betting in the regulations. At that point, a lottery spokesperson confirmed that legislation could change this.
Virginia Lottery is in favor of the changes proposed by Sickles, Executive Director Kevin Hall said at the virtual meeting.
